The castle described in my story has been fabricated and pieced together from three different castles. Lichtenstein Castle provided the drawbridge and moat; Herdringen Castle supplied the main gate with the gate house and armory and the coat-of-arms sculpted above the lintel. And last, but not least, the curving stone staircase leading up to the entrance of the castle proper was taken from my own hometown Solitude Castle.
As you can tell, I love castles. I like to visit and explore them and their surroundings. And, of course, growing up I used to dream up all kinds of stories of dashing knights and beautiful princesses living in these castles. Small wonder then that my first story is set in a castle, a modern-day fairy tale.
